  1. Look for the human values inherent in the decision.
  2. Examine the situation from alternative perspectives.
  3. Question all justifications, especially those that seem "obvious" or "natural."
  4. Insist on reasoned arguments; avoid emotional rhetoric
  5. Examine all possible consequences you can think of.
  6. Examine obligations and rights that may be affected by your decision
  7. Examine the way power relationships will change or be reinforced.
  8. Ask yourself if the decision is appropriate for a person with your ideals.
